Israel Palestine Holy Land?
2014 saw an escalation of the conflict in Israel Palestine. Israel’s military offensive against Gaza, Hamas’ rockets penetrating inside Israel and intensification of occupation within Palestinian territories means relations between the peoples are at a new low and the country is again on the brink of war.
This Conversation event features experts from Israel and Palestine from different faith backgrounds giving their perspectives on the issue. There will be an emphasis on listening to different opinions and learning from eyewitness accounts as well as consideration of the Christian understanding of the conflict. In addition to presentations and panel discussion there will be audience question time.
Noam Rabinovich (Jewish Israeli, Olive Tree Alumnus)
Noam has previously worked at local Israeli NGO B’Tselem. She has just completed a Masters in Human Rights Law at LSE and is currently working for the New Israel Fund UK. She will talk from personal experience of the different viewpoints in Israel and what it is like to be a voice of dissidence in Israel.
Elizabeth Jadon (Palestinian from Gaza, Olive Tree Alumnus)
Elizabeth gained her LLB from City University London on an Olive Tree Scholarship. She is a Christian Palestinian Israeli and will speak from a personal point of view about the collective impact of bureaucratic policies on Palestinian Jerusalemities and the subsequent challenge of living a normal life as a Palestinian in Jerusalem.
Enas Al-Bittar (Gaza Palestine, Olive Tree Alumnus)
Enas is a graduate from Cass Business School with a management degree. She was born and brought up in Gaza where she lived under the Israeli blockade before coming to London as an Olive Tree Scholar where she currently lives and works. She will speak about her personal experience of living under blockade in the Gaza Strip.
