The essense of Baptism for chldren
The Catholic Catechism says that the “two principle effects of Baptism are purification from sins and new birth in the Holy Spirit.” [1262] We will focus on new birth in the Spirit. The catechism says Baptism “makes the neophyte a new creature, an adopted son or daughter of God who has become a partaker of the divine nature, a member of Christ and co-heir with him, and a temple of the Holy Spirit.” [1265]
The child now possesses a wonderful potential — to mature into a full-fledged Christian and a member of the Church. “Baptism is the source of that new life in Christ from which the entire Christian life springs forth.” [1254] “Baptism therefore constitutes the sacramental bond of unity existing among all who through it are reborn.” [1271]
